Lesson 9: Absaroke (Crow)

Today, we’ll be discussing Absaroke, commonly known as Crow, society and culture. The Absaroke are a Plains Indian society, so it is important to discuss the stereotypical Plains Indian, the wider Indian stereotype based on the Plains Indian, and what Plains cultures were actually like and are like today. We are also discussing John Grim’s book chapter on Absaroke religious changes since the 1800s, focusing on how changes have fit into Absaroke values and helped maintain the culture despite outward appearances.
